Ray Voley (Kenny Lake) is the proud winner of a $38,000 grant from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development and the Alaska Learning Network (AKLN). Ray participated in the recent AKLN Artifact Competition by uploading a number of student technology projects. TWO of Ray's entries were selected as winners, netting him $20,000 for the purchase of technology for his school. The remaining grant monies make it possible for a team of educators to attending the 2011 ASTE conference and fund development of lesson plans related to the winning artifacts. CONGRATS, Ray! Due to the many folks from the district who will be attending the annual ASTE conference on February 21st, the in-service day has been changed from district-wide to site-based. Please see your principal for the day's agenda.
The next DISTRICT-WIDE in-service will involve ALL faculty and staff (certified & classified) on March 11th (SBA / testing protocols). Teachers and administrators, THANK YOU for your hard work during our January 21st in-service! Based on the evaluation surveys, the vast majority of you found the day to be productive and beneficial to your understanding of our developing curriculum. MANY thanks to Frances Jackson and Angela Woods for sharing arts integration ideas with us during the afternoon session! It was great to be together with everyone again! 1/21/11 Photo Gallery Students at Kenny Lake and Glennallen participated in school-level Poetry Out Loud competitions in late January. Sponsored by the National Endowmment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest for high school students across the U.S. Huge thanks go to Zach Ziegler (GLN & KL Music) and Ray Voley (KL) for integrating this project into their classes. This year marks the CRSD's first year of participation in the program, and while we won't have a representative at state competition in Juneau, it's terrific that this opportunity for kids now has a foothold in our district! |
