Thanks to our friends in the Anchorage School District for participating in a national effort to create COMMON CORE BASAL ALIGNMENT GUIDES for a variety of basal reading series, including Open Court. The guides, created by teachers and literacy specialists from across the country, are available in a password-protected environment within Edmodo. If you don't already have an Edmodo account, it's FREE to register. Next step is to enter the CODE for the Basal Alignment Project group -- available from your principal or by emailing Tammy. Thanks to Mrs. McKenzie for already sharing this information with her 3-5 teachers...and for passing the info along for the website. Even if you teach grades outside of 3-5, the alignment guides are VERY relevant to you, as well, and are definitely worth a look! The Common Core Basal Alignment Project is but one example of MANY high quality, grass-roots efforts aimed at providing educators with Common Core-aligned tools. If you run across other tools, sites, or resources that may be of interest to CRSD teachers, please email Tammy so it can be shared on the T&L website! ...and one last thing... When you're busy tidying up your classroom or cleaning up the house, listen in to some very rich and informative thinking on text complexity! The following video introducing the Basal Alignment Project is very thought-provoking!

Hey, teachers! Don't forget about your MASTERY CONNECT subscription! In addition, feel free to add MC's handy widgets to your teacher webpage or blog. Check them out here! A lot of thought and hard work went into the selection of common quarterly units for English Language Arts during our August in-service. In addition, grade-band teams made important content connections between ELA content and science/social studies topics, providing support for ALL teachers to better address the content sequences for ALL students.
To view the CRSD's Common Units Map, click here. Please note that content mapping of the new curriculum will continue through the end of the school year! "Fresh" maps were distributed at the January 21st in-service. If you forgot to take a copy or need another, feel free to download from the "Content Maps" page. Your principal has a master copy of each content map, as well, if you prefer to make copies. |
